Bangladesh Jiban Bima Corporation has requested assistance from the Ministry of Finance to recover Tk 126.95 crore tied up in eight expired fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) at Padma Bank. The managing director of Jiban Bima highlighted the difficulties faced in reclaiming these funds, which date back to an investment of Tk 115.53 crore made in 2015 and 2016 across seven branches of Padma Bank. Despite attempts to withdraw the funds at the Imamganj branch in December 2017, the bank was unable to disburse the money. The corporation initially sought government support in April 2018 when the unpaid amount, including interest, had reached Tk 122.93 crore. However, the total owed by Padma Bank increased to Tk 126.95 crore by the end of August. Despite multiple follow-up letters and reminders sent to the bank, Jiban Bima Corporation has received no response regarding the recovery of the funds.
