The Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and the Government of Bangladesh have signed a Record of Discussions (RD) with the aim of achieving a low-carbon society. Under this agreement, Jica will assist the government in formulating an effective power distribution plan for Dhaka.
The distribution master plan focuses on securing a reliable electricity supply system for Dhaka, enhancing distribution planning, operation and maintenance, and upgrading distribution facilities. The plan prioritizes the integration of variable renewable energy into the distribution system, offering a roadmap toward a low-carbon society.
International experts from Jica will collaborate with Desco and DPDC over 36 months to formulate and implement the plan while enhancing institutional capacity for distribution system planning and operation. The chief representative of JICA emphasized the importance of integrating renewable energy into urban grids for a robust and efficient distribution system.
