Libra Infusions, a loss-making company on the Dhaka Stock Exchange, has seen a 30% increase in its share price in just two weeks up to 7th October 2023, despite its financial struggles. The company reported a loss of Tk 8.53 million in Q1 2021 and hasn’t published any financial data since.
It also hasn’t declared any dividends in the last three years. The unusual price surge has raised concerns of market manipulation, with analysts suspecting a vested group behind it. The company’s low paid-up capital of Tk 15.02 million makes it susceptible to manipulation. Many other stocks with similar patterns are also appearing on the top gainers’ list, often driven by rumors. Investors are being cautioned to be careful when investing in such low-profile companies. As of August, sponsor-directors own 34.43%, institutional investors own 11.07%, and the general public owns 54.50% of Libra Infusions.
