The scorching summer heat in Bangladesh has brought about significant challenges in terms of power supply, with load shedding reaching as high as 966 MW on the first working day of the week. Parts of the country are experiencing a very severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.
According to data from the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC) at the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), load shedding has primarily affected rural areas, while efforts are made to minimize power cuts in urban areas, particularly in the capital Dhaka and other major cities.
Forecasts from both the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and PGCB indicate that electricity demand is expected to peak at 15,000 MW during the day and rise to 16,200 MW in the evening. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid has warned that demand could surpass 17,000 MW this summer.
