Dealers selling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) are at risk of losing them if they increase prices above government-set rates, warns the State Minister for Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources. LPG has been found to be sold at prices up to Tk100-200 higher than those established by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).
The minister emphasizes the need for stricter market monitoring to prevent price manipulation and states that licenses may be revoked if necessary to ensure compliance with BERC-set prices. The LPG market in Bangladesh involves dealers, agents, and sub-agents, contributing to price fluctuations. The minister also calls for a modernized LPG policy due to the significant increase in LPG usage across various sectors. Safety measures and monitoring of gas pipelines are also discussed to ensure the proper use of gas resources in the future.
