Danish shipping giant AP Moller Maersk’s proposal to invest approximately $450 million in constructing a new container terminal at Chattogram Port’s Laldia has received positive consideration from the government. APM Terminals, a subsidiary of Maersk, submitted the proposal, which was well-received by the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA). CEO of Maersk group and a Danish delegation are set to discuss the investment with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The CPA previously approved Maersk’s plan for technical assessment. Notably, a previous public-private partnership project for a terminal at Laldia Char had been canceled due to encroachment issues. The potential investment aligns with CPA’s projection of attracting $7 billion in foreign investment to the port within three years, garnering industry support for enhanced services.
