Farmers in the Phulchari upazila of Gaibandha are not happy with their bumper yield of maize due to low market prices this year. Despite favourable weather, marginal farmers are disappointed with the low prices of their crop. They are forced to sell their produce at a cheap price to local traders due to high transportation costs from remote villages to the district centre.
Additionally, they are unable to store maize in the flood-affected area. Farmers are concerned about repaying loans they took from NGOs to cover cultivation costs. The lack of a proper communication system has left them unable to transport their crops to be sold for a fair price.
