Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has invited Malaysia to fully manufacture Perodua cars in Bangladesh. This call was made during a farewell meeting with the outgoing Malaysian High Commissioner. Currently, PHP Motors assembles Perodua cars in Bangladesh. The Prime Minister’s Press Secretary noted the strong bilateral relationship dating back to the era of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The high commissioner praised the Prime Minister’s handling of recent unrest and emphasized the internal nature of the situation. Malaysian investments in Bangladesh have reached $5 billion, primarily driven by telecommunications companies Robi and Edotco. Additionally, many Malaysian students are studying in Bangladeshi universities, and the high commissioner highlighted the affordability and quality of Malaysian healthcare services, which attract Bangladeshi patients.
