Tarique Afzal, managing director of AB Bank, resigned citing health reasons and submitted his resignation from Canada on December 1. The bank’s board accepted his resignation, which will be sent to the central bank for approval. Syed Mizanur Rahman, the additional managing director, has taken over as acting managing director. Afzal, who joined AB Bank in 2018 and became MD in 2019, has faced criticism for his involvement in politics, including serving on the Awami League’s international subcommittee while holding his banking role.
