Mango Special Train starts from May 20

To facilitate the transportation of mangoes from Chapainawabganj and Rajshahi to Dhaka at an affordable cost, Bangladesh Railway is preparing to launch the Mango Special Train for the fourth consecutive year starting from May 20, 2023. This decision was announced during an opinion exchange meeting held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner in Chapainawabganj. The train service aims to benefit mango growers and traders by providing a dedicated means of transporting mangoes from the production area to Dhaka.

The meeting was attended by various officials and stakeholders, including representatives from the Railway Department, Courier Services, Zilla Truck Owners Association, mango growers, entrepreneurs, and traders. Deputy Commissioner emphasized that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the train’s launch on May 20, allowing the transportation of mangoes to the capital city. According to sources from the railway department, the Mango Special Train carried a total of 167,082 kilograms (Kgs) of mangoes in 2020, 236,973 kgs in 2021, and 148,255 kgs in 2022. This year, the district’s mango production target stands at 425,000 tonnes, as reported by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

Banks Disburse Tk 30,104 Crore in Farm Loans

In the first ten months of FY24, Bangladeshi banks disbursed Tk 30,104 crore in agricultural loans, achieving 86% of the annual target of Tk 35,000 crore. This target represents a 13.6% increase from the previous fiscal year. Loan recoveries reached Tk 28,949 crore, marking a 7.66% year-on-year increase.
