Mango Special Train starts from May 20

To facilitate the transportation of mangoes from Chapainawabganj and Rajshahi to Dhaka at an affordable cost, Bangladesh Railway is preparing to launch the Mango Special Train for the fourth consecutive year starting from May 20, 2023. This decision was announced during an opinion exchange meeting held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner in Chapainawabganj. The train service aims to benefit mango growers and traders by providing a dedicated means of transporting mangoes from the production area to Dhaka.

The meeting was attended by various officials and stakeholders, including representatives from the Railway Department, Courier Services, Zilla Truck Owners Association, mango growers, entrepreneurs, and traders. Deputy Commissioner emphasized that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the train’s launch on May 20, allowing the transportation of mangoes to the capital city. According to sources from the railway department, the Mango Special Train carried a total of 167,082 kilograms (Kgs) of mangoes in 2020, 236,973 kgs in 2021, and 148,255 kgs in 2022. This year, the district’s mango production target stands at 425,000 tonnes, as reported by the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

Feed import facilities extended

The proposed budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 includes an extension of all tax facilities for feed used in poultry, fish, and meat production. The coverage of these benefits has been expanded, and as a result, duty, value-added tax (VAT), and tax benefits will be retained in the upcoming fiscal year. The budget proposal also incorporates the Shrimp Hatchery Association of Bangladesh (SHAB) into the existing notification (No 128/2020) that provides concessional facilities on the import of materials used in poultry, dairy, and fish production.

Bengal Meat has launched its Online Qurbani Haat once again in preparation for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha. During a press conference at their Dhaka head office, Bengal Meat officials announced the opening of the Qurbani portal for the 9th consecutive year, according to a press release. Customers can now order their preferred livestock through the online platform, ensuring that the animals are slaughtered under the supervision of a representative from the Islamic Foundation and delivered with proper cold chain maintenance.
