An economist from the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) has pointed out that a contractionary monetary policy might not effectively combat persistent inflation if market syndicates remain unaddressed. It was emphasized that the central bank should collaborate with other regulatory bodies to dismantle these syndicates and control inflation.
It was suggested that a short-term plan for addressing potential economic instability during the upcoming elections should be made, while long-term strategies should also be developed. Furthermore, changes to fiscal policies, such as reducing revenue expenditure and boosting revenue, were proposed as necessary measures to control inflation. Addressing the declining reserves by focusing on the dollar market rate was also advised. Additionally, dealing with non-performing loans, impaired assets, and strengthening the implementation of laws in the banking sector were noted as essential actions.
