The Mastercard Economics Institute (MEI) forecasts Bangladesh’s consumer price inflation to be 7.3% in 2024, considerably lower than the government’s recent 9.42% average. MEI also predicts a positive outlook for the country’s GDP growth at 6.3%, aligning closely with the Asian Development Bank’s estimate, contrary to the World Bank’s more conservative 5.6%.
The global research arm of Mastercard anticipates a global economic environment marked by eased inflation pressures in 2024. While global inflation is expected to drop to 4.9%, real GDP growth may only slightly decrease to 2.9%. In Bangladesh, headline inflation decreased to 9.49% in November, signaling a notable decline from October’s 9.93%. Food and non-food inflation both contributed to this trend.
