The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has licensed Midland Bank Asset Management, a subsidiary of Midland Bank PLC, to operate as an asset manager. This brings the total number of licensed asset managers in the country to 67. Midland Bank, listed on the stock exchange in 2023 after raising Tk70 crore at Tk10 per share, has developed into a full-fledged commercial bank since its incorporation in 2013. In 2023, the bank reported a profit of Tk113 crore and distributed a 5% cash dividend to shareholders. Despite an 18% decline in net interest income, Midland Bank’s operating income grew by 29% to Tk190 crore in the first half of 2024, driven by higher investment income. The bank’s net profit for the January to June 2024 period rose by 22% to Tk28.53 crore, compared to Tk23.27 crore in the same period of the previous year.
