The increasing number of cylinder fires in Bangladesh is a concerning issue, primarily attributed to faulty valves and regulators. Experts emphasize the importance of using valves and regulators of the same size to reduce the risk of gas leakage, which is the main cause of these fires. Additionally, ensuring the quality of cylinder hose pipes is crucial in preventing such incidents.
According to statistics from the Fire Service and Civil Defense, stove-related fires accounted for a significant number of incidents in recent years, with a notable portion caused by gas cylinder explosions. In response, it is essential to address the underlying issues contributing to these incidents.
Currently, Bangladesh has multiple companies involved in importing and marketing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). While older companies have testing centres to verify cylinder quality, newer companies are not mandated to establish such facilities. However, all cylinders must meet stringent safety standards monitored by the Department of Explosives.
