MJL Bangladesh PLC has approved the sale of its 20-year-old oil tanker, MT Omera Legacy, for $22.7 million (Tk272.4 crore), with a 3% commission deducted, yielding a net amount of Tk264.22 crore. This decision aligns with its asset management strategy and was disclosed via the Dhaka Stock Exchange. The sale announcement led to a 1.48% rise in MJL’s share price to Tk96.20. This follows the company’s 2020 sale of an older vessel for $8.8 million and its fleet modernization plan, which includes acquiring five oil tankers and one LPG tanker for $208.20 million. MJL’s oil tanker division is crucial for international crude oil and petroleum cargo trade. The proceeds from this sale will support expansion efforts. In the first half of FY24, MJL’s consolidated revenue rose 28% to Tk2,289.87 crore, and net profit increased 30% to Tk217.43 crore, with EPS reaching Tk6.66. In Q2, revenue grew 20% to Tk1,122.41 crore, while net profit surged 36% to Tk104 crore. MJL posted a FY24 profit of Tk271 crore and declared a 52% cash dividend.
