In November 2024, Bangladesh saw a significant decrease of 4.38 million mobile internet subscribers, the largest monthly drop since August 2021, according to the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The total number of internet subscribers fell to 132.8 million from 137.18 million in October, continuing a five-month decline since July. During this period, the number of internet subscribers dropped by 9 million. Mobile subscribers also declined in November, reaching 188.78 million from 189.96 million in October. All cellphone operators except state-owned Teletalk experienced a drop in subscriptions, with Teletalk gaining 100,000 new users. The industry lost 7.38 million subscribers since July 2024. Despite the decline, the number of mobile phone users in November was 1.58 million higher than the same period in 2023. BTRC notes that the actual number of individual users is lower than the number of mobile phone subscribers due to multiple SIM ownership.
