Mobile Internet Subscribers Decline by 10 Million in August

Industry: Telecom, Telecom & Mobile

In August, Bangladesh’s mobile internet subscribers fell by nearly one crore, reaching 12.69 crore, marking a second consecutive month of decline. The trend is linked to a shift in mobile data package offerings, particularly the discontinuation of short-term, three-day packages, which led many users to reduce or discontinue secondary SIM usage. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission recently updated guidelines, removing three-day and 15-day packages and extending the minimum data package validity to seven days to enhance user experience. Despite these changes, total internet subscriptions (mobile and broadband) reached 14.05 crore. Broadband subscribers remained steady at 1.35 crore, with notable digital divides persisting between rural and urban areas, as well as across genders, highlighting disparities in internet access.
