In October 2024, Bangladesh witnessed its first decline in internet subscribers in nine months, primarily due to a reduction in mobile internet users. The total subscriber base dropped by nearly 3 lakh to 13.18 crore, with broadband subscribers holding steady at 1.25 crore. Despite this dip, mobile operators reported robust growth in data usage and revenues, emphasizing the sector’s adaptability.
Grameenphone’s data segment saw continuous growth, with 57.9% of its subscribers utilizing internet services. Robi added 11 lakh data users in Q3, with each consuming an average of 6.67 GB per month. While the broadband market faced challenges, including halted expansion and slowed customer acquisition, the industry navigates rising costs, currency fluctuations, and changing consumer spending patterns.
