Frustrations with poor network coverage, call disruptions, and slow internet in Bangladesh are attributed to chaotic tower network management, according to industry experts. Bangladesh has 26 mobile towers per 100,000 people, compared to 37 in Sri Lanka and India, and more in countries like Cambodia and Malaysia. To address future needs, approximately 12,000 new towers are required in the coming years, with 5,000 more by 2033. Challenges include limitations from the 2018 Tower Sharing Guideline and restrictions on the largest tower company, which have slowed network expansion. Current tower companies are struggling to meet demand and financial commitments, leading to disputes and delays. Proposed solutions include allowing telecom operators to invest in their own towers, facilitating active sharing of network resources, adopting new technologies, and reducing import duties on network equipment. Additionally, there is a call for increased awareness about mobile tower radiation, which is currently below safety thresholds.
