Modern Syntex Limited, a subsidiary of TK Group, is preparing to commence commercial operations at one of Bangladesh’s largest man-made fiber plants in Chattogram’s Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar next month. With an investment of $141 million, the factory has been established as an import substitute, focusing on textile-related products such as polyester yarn, polyester staple fiber, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) chips. Approximately 30 percent of the investment is equity, with the remainder funded by banks. While the factory has been ready since March, the start of operations was delayed due to a lack of gas connection.
Once operational, Modern Syntex aims to fulfill 38 percent of the current annual demand for PET chips and other textile products in Bangladesh. The plant, equipped with machinery from Germany, China, and India, is expected to employ around 1,500 individuals. The man-made fiber industry in Bangladesh is crucial to the nation’s textile and apparel sector, contributing to exports and job creation.
