In the third quarter of FY2023-24, five listed power generation companies experienced negative growth in their earnings per share (EPS) compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. However, two leading private power generation companies, Summit Power Ltd (SPL) and United Power Generation & Distribution Company, reported increased earnings in Q3. SPL’s consolidated EPS rose to Tk 0.69, up from Tk 0.48 in Q3 of FY2022-23, while United Power Generation & Distribution Company’s profit increased to Tk 312.45 crore, supported by stability in the foreign exchange market and higher finance income.

Conversely, Doreen Power Generations and Systems Limited reported a negative EPS of Tk 0.60, attributing the decrease to a significant drop in sales revenue as the tenure of power purchase agreements (PPAs) expired. Other companies such as Khulna Power Company, Baraka Patenga Power, Baraka Power, and GBB Power also reported declines in EPS for Q3 of FY2023-24. However, Shahjibazar Power Company Limited posted a notable profit increase in Q3 due to reduced operating costs, with an EPS of Tk 2.22.
