Md Shafiqul Islam Akand, a commissioner of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), has been suspended under The Public Servants Act on allegations of accepting bribes on September 2. The suspension order, signed by Abdur Rahman Khan, secretary of the Internal Resources Division and NBR chairman, follows Akand’s recent transfer to Tax Zone-7, Dhaka. He was previously serving at the Chattogram Tax Appellate Tribunal. Despite the seriousness of the charges, NBR officials declined to comment on the matter.
