The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is set to implement a Tk 532 crore project, constructing six buildings across Sylhet, Barishal, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Noakhali, and Brahmanbaria.
The initiative aims to centralize 86 tax offices to enhance tax collection efficiency and protect taxpayer files. As part of a three-year plan, the NBR collaborates with the Public Works Department, with completion targeted for June 2026. The move responds to challenges in meeting revenue targets, attributed to a weak tax net outside Dhaka and Chattogram.
The proposed budget includes Tk 283.68 crore for office infrastructure, Tk 22.76 crore for furniture, and Tk 14.20 crore for water supply. Concerns have arisen about waterlogging and seismic risks in selected areas, prompting a review of the project’s rationale.
