Taxpayers failing to submit income tax returns for the financial year 2023-2024 in Bangladesh will be denied 48 government and non-government services, according to new guidelines from the National Board of Revenue. The services include obtaining gas and power connections and monthly salary verification for wage earners. The guidelines, applicable from the current fiscal year 2023-24, empower deputy commissioners of taxes to impose fines and determine tax liabilities. Tax return submission began on July 1 and ends on November 30, with an exception for those residing abroad for study or work, who can submit returns within 90 days of returning to Bangladesh. The guidelines outline various forms for tax return submission, including self-assessment, general, and universal return forms. Certified tax return preparers can assist in filing returns, with the NBR issuing their licenses.
