A regulation requiring an electronic lock and seal for transit and transshipment commodities passing via the ports of Chattogram and Mongla to India was released by the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Utilizing the GPS system, e-tracking would be carried out to guarantee the precision of imported products’ transportation from ports to destinations.
The NBR customs wing has repealed the Electronic Seal and Lock Service Rule-2018, which was implemented before to the huge scandal surrounding contractor appointments and other related issues. The wing has published the “Electronic Seal and Lock Rules 2024” in a gazette, which go into effect on April 4, 2024, in accordance with the Customs Act of 1969. India has successfully completed four transit commodity shipments under the 2018 agreement for Chattogram and Mongla ports, but Customs plans to amend the SOP to cover more import items. Following the release of the SOP, the NBR would designate the paths for vehicle movement using an e-seal or lock, and any deviation from the plan found during tracking would result in consequences.
