NBR Sets Tk 6,705 Crore Revenue Target for Benapole Custom House

The National Board of Revenue has set a revenue collection target of Tk6,705 crore for Benapole Custom House in the fiscal year 2024-25. In the previous fiscal year 2023-24, Benapole Custom House exceeded its target by Tk216 crore, collecting Tk6,164.59 crore against a target of Tk5,948 crore. Officials at Benapole emphasize transparency in their operations and express confidence in meeting this year’s revenue goal despite global economic challenges and currency fluctuations. The Benapole C&F Agents Association also anticipates meeting the target if trade conditions remain favorable, citing increased revenue collection amidst global economic uncertainties last year.

Government investment in domestic revenue mobilization in Bangladesh has declined despite the urgent need to enhance tax collection. According to the Medium Term Macroeconomic Policy Statement 2023-24 to 2025-26, the cost of collecting Tk 100 in domestic revenue decreased from Tk 0.31 in FY2019-20 to Tk 0.25 in FY2020-21. Indirect tax collection costs fell from Tk 0.21 to Tk 0.13, while direct tax costs dropped from Tk 0.31 to Tk 0.21 during the same period.
