A new gas reserve has been discovered in Well No. 10 at Sylhet Gas Field Limited in Jaintapur, with an expected daily extraction of 13 million cubic feet. The well, situated in Hagla Haor, remains submerged during the monsoon but is accessible in the dry season.
In 2018, a three-dimensional geological survey identified gas in the Sylhet gas field, leading to excavation by a Chinese company. The minimum market value of the gas is estimated at Tk 3,600 crore, with project expenses totaling Tk 203 crore. This discovery follows the recent commencement of gas production from the previously abandoned Well No. 2, injecting an additional 7 million cubic feet daily into the national grid.
