The Ministry of Labour and Employment has directed the National Tea Company (NTC) to auction 22 lakh kilograms of tea to cover unpaid wages for its workers. The company has also been instructed to submit a proposal to increase its borrowing limit with Bangladesh Krishi Bank. The NTC, facing worker unrest over unpaid wages, is expected to secure Tk8 crore from the bank to pay wages. However, the company still has outstanding dues of Tk16.5 crore. A BSEC committee is also investigating the company’s financial dealings, with a subscription extension for placement shares until March 2025.
