Two days prior, Chinese garlic was Tk 260/kg and domestic garlic Tk 280/kg. Domestic onion prices rose by Tk 10/kg to Tk 80/kg from Tk 70/kg two days earlier. Consumers expressed satisfaction with the lower garlic prices but lamented the onion price hike. Retail sellers attribute the onion price increase to reduced domestic supply. They suggest that importing onions from India could lower prices to Tk 25-30/kg. Overall, the garlic prices dropped by Tk 20/kg within a week, whereas onion prices increased by Tk 10/kg in the same period.
