A global report reveals significant gender disparities in mobile ownership and internet adoption in Bangladesh. Currently, 85% of adult males own a mobile phone compared to 68% of adult females. Mobile internet adoption rates stand at 40% for men and only 24% for women. Affordability and literacy are key barriers, with 40% of female internet users accessing it exclusively via mobile. Bangladesh has the highest gender gap in mobile internet adoption among Asian countries at 40%. Despite progress in awareness, women face challenges in smartphone ownership and usage frequency. However, women’s mobile internet adoption rates have increased, narrowing the gender gap across low and middle-income countries, primarily driven by South Asia.
