A recent survey conducted between October 13 and 27 among 1,000 people in Bangladesh found that 61.2% believe the media enjoys greater freedom under the current government. While 25.2% feel freedom of expression remains unchanged, 14.2% think it has decreased. Among younger participants (18-34 years), 57.1% observed increased freedom. However, Bangladesh ranked 165th in the 2024 World Press Freedom Index, marking a decline over 15 years of AL rule due to repressive laws and censorship. The government repealed the Digital Security Act last year and replaced it with the Cyber Security Act, which faced criticism. A Media Reform Commission was also formed to improve press freedom. Additionally, 57% of respondents support allowing the AL to continue its political activities.
