Migrant workers defrauded in overseas job schemes face challenges in seeking compensation due to procedural complexities at the Bureau of Manpower, Employment, and Training (BMET) in Bangladesh. Victims experience delays of four months to a year in resolving compensation claims, with many receiving less than half of their total financial losses.
In 2023, complaints related to overseas jobs, including fake offers and wage fraud, nearly doubled compared to the previous year, reaching 2,380. Despite BMET resolving one-third of the complaints, compensations amounted to Tk4.87 crore. The slow and inadequate resolution process, lack of necessary documents, and flaws in BMET’s arbitration process pose challenges for cheated migrants seeking justice.
