Tarek Riaz Khan, Managing Director (MD) of Padma Bank, has resigned as the bank prepares to merge with Exim Bank. He will join NRB Bank as MD pending approval from the central bank. Meanwhile, Habibur Rahman, MD of Standard Bank, has been on leave since February. The central bank is inspecting the bank following a conflict with a senior manager. Kazi Ahsan Khalil, previously the Deputy Managing Director of NRB Bank, has joined Meghna Bank as MD. Anisur Rahman has been reappointed as MD of Basic Bank for one year. Premier Bank is set to appoint Mohammad Abu Zafar as MD, pending approval, while NCC Bank has decided to appoint M Shamsul Arefin. Bangladesh Bank now requires oral tests for MD appointments, with a maximum term of three years. The bank’s policy mandates that MDs cannot resign suddenly; they must provide explanations to the central bank committee, whose decision is final.
