Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Syed Ahmed Maroof, stressed that trade will be a key driver of future Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, enhancing economic, political, and cultural ties. Speaking at the Bay of Bengal Conversation, Maroof highlighted recent improvements in trade facilitation, such as reduced inspection of Pakistani consignments at Bangladeshi ports and faster shipping times from Karachi to Chattogram. While bilateral trade reached $1 billion in 2021, Maroof believes it has much greater potential. He called for improved trade facilitation, political will, and focus on sectors like textiles, agriculture, energy, and technology to boost trade and cooperation.
