Renowned Bangladeshi scientist Dr. Abed Chowdhury has achieved a groundbreaking feat by developing a method to cultivate four additional types of rice on a single rice tree, without the need to uproot the tree after harvesting. Termed “Panchabrihi” this innovation promises to alleviate food shortages in Bangladesh, especially in regions prone to natural disasters, flooding, and droughts.
Dr. Abed unveiled this discovery at a seminar organized by the London-Bangla Press Club. He believes that by disseminating this technique to farmers nationwide, Bangladesh can ensure food security for the next 50 years. Dr. Abed conducted extensive research in Sylhet and identified five rice plant varieties by blending thousands of species, streamlining rice cultivation. Importantly, he has pledged to make this discovery accessible to poor farmers without pursuing commercial interests. His commitment to improving food security and the quality of life for his fellow citizens underscores his intent not to exploit this innovation for profit.
