A massive 1,320 MW coal-powered plant is set to commence operations in Kalapara, Bangladesh, by the end of the year. This new facility, built by a joint venture between a Chinese company and the state-owned Rural Power Company, will significantly increase the country’s electricity generation capacity.
The plant is equipped with modern technology, including the use of powdered coal for increased efficiency and reduced emissions. Once operational, it is expected to meet approximately 10% of Bangladesh’s annual electricity demand. Despite concerns about environmental impact, the plant incorporates features like a fly ash silo, waste water storage basins, and a rainwater reservoir to mitigate potential pollution. This power plant represents a significant step towards addressing Bangladesh’s growing energy needs while also incorporating measures to minimize environmental impact.
