The Power Division in Bangladesh has achieved significant cost savings in the construction of power transmission lines for the Payra 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant. The initial estimated cost for the project was Tk 3,294 crore, but it was completed at Tk 2,484 crore, resulting in savings of Tk 810 crore. The savings were attributed to the use of local raw materials for the construction of metal towers, the selection of land outside the municipality’s borders, and the procurement of equipment at lower prices.
The project, financed by the government, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB), and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), has successfully facilitated the supply of electricity from the power plant through a 163.43km long 400 KV double circuit transmission line and the construction of substations in Gopalganj, Madaripur, and Faridpur. The completion of the project will be officially recognized in June 2023, and the unused funds will be refunded. The cost savings demonstrate efficient project management and successful collaboration between stakeholders.
