Petrobangla, facing financial strain exacerbated by high fuel import costs and LNG prices, settled Tk5,000 crore in VAT arrears this week. The corporation’s total dues to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources amounted to Tk37,549 crore as of March. To manage its liabilities, Petrobangla secured interest-free long-term loans with a 15-year grace period and a total repayment span of 20 years. Discussions included options like debt settlement via book adjustments before deciding on partial cash payments for VAT arrears. Other entities, including BPC and its affiliates, also have substantial outstanding dues in taxes and duties, reflecting broader financial challenges within the sector.
