Petrobangla is embarking on an ambitious plan to drill a total of 48 wells across different gas fields to add 618 MMCFD to the national grid by 2025. This endeavor is crucial given the current gas shortage being experienced by various sectors, including power and industries.
To expedite the process and meet the set timeline, Petrobangla is considering bypassing the mandatory feasibility study requirement, if necessary, to avoid delays. The corporation is utilizing both its own resources and outsourcing contracts to carry out the drilling operations.
Of the planned 48 wells, 23 will be drilled using the rigs of BAPEX (Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited), while the remaining 25 will be undertaken through outsourcing contractors at existing onshore gas fields. These efforts are part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance local gas production in response to declining reserves and production levels.
