During July-April of FY24, Bangladesh’s plastic product exports surged by nearly 18% to $201.09 million, the highest volume recorded in a 10-month period compared to previous fiscal years. Main export destinations include the United States, Canada, the European Union, China, India, and Nepal. Tableware and kitchenware constitute the majority of Bangladesh’s exportable plastic items. Local manufacturers attribute export growth to competitive pricing and the creation of new markets. However, they stress the need for better marketing abroad to boost export earnings, citing high tax rates compared to the RMG sector. The strategic export target for FY24 is $275 million, with over 142 plastic items currently being exported, including film plastic and household items.
