In the financial year 2023-24, Bangladesh’s Power Development Board (PDB) reported a capacity charge payment of Tk 27,465 crore. Notably, Tk 14,810 crore (54%) is allocated to the top four companies, including Adani’s SS Power and Summit power plants, Payra, and S Alam. When considering the United Group and Rampal power plant, the top six groups account for approximately 66% of the capacity charge. This concentration increases to around 81% when examining the top 12 companies, highlighting that the private sector’s power generation capacity is largely controlled by a small number of entities.
