Bangladesh experienced a significant increase in load shedding, with the power shortage surpassing 1000 MW amid soaring electricity demand. This marks the first instance in recent days where the shortage has reached such a level, despite a new record in power generation at 16,233 MW.
Data from the National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC) at the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) indicated that the country’s demand reached 15,200 MW by 3 pm on Tuesday, coinciding with a load shedding of 1049 MW.
For Tuesday evening, the demand forecasted was 16,800 MW, with a supply forecasted at 16,530 MW. The diversion of load-shedding burdens to rural areas has been noted as part of a strategy to minimize power outages in urban centres like Dhaka and other major cities. However, reports from various regions highlight the worsening situation for rural residents, especially considering the intense summer heat.
