The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has increased the price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder to Tk 1,459 for January, up by Tk 4 from the previous price of Tk 1,455. This price hike follows the implementation of new value-added tax (VAT) and tax measures. The adjustment also affects other LPG cylinder sizes, with proportional pricing applied. Autogas prices for vehicles have risen to Tk 67.27 per litre, and LPG supplied through centralized systems now costs Tk 261.80 per cubic metre. Despite these changes, the price of state-owned LPG remains unchanged at Tk 690 per 12.5-kg cylinder. BERC has been setting LPG prices monthly since April 2021. Currently, around 27 operators, including private and satellite companies, import approximately 1.10 million tonnes of LPG to meet 98% of the country’s demand. The sector employs about 200 road tankers, 5,000 trucks, and 21 cargo vessels to distribute 35 million LPG cylinders nationwide.
