The influx of new season Boro paddy has led to a decline in prices for rice varieties like Miniket and Zeerashail, dropping by Tk 2 – Tk 4 per kg. However, retailers note that the decrease isn’t as significant as anticipated, expressing concern that prices may not fall further after the government initiates paddy and rice procurement this month. Post-Eid-ul-Fitr, reduced shopping pressure has contributed to price drops in products like sugar, broiler chicken, and eggs, decreasing by Tk 5 – Tk 15 per kg or dozen. Broiler chicken prices, in particular, are attributed to the ongoing heatwave impacting farms, prompting increased supply and subsequent price decreases. In markets like Rampura, Malibagh, and Segunbagicha, Miniket and Zeerashail rice were priced between Tk 66 – Tk 72 per kg, down from Tk 70 – Tk 74 per kg a week earlier. However, other Boro season rice varieties such as BR28, BR29, and Nazirshail have maintained their prices.
