Unemployed youth and women in Bangladesh increasingly seek bank loans to work abroad, driven by the desire to support their families and achieve better living standards. The government-established Probashi Kallyan Bank provides loans up to Tk 300,000 to facilitate overseas employment, with flexible repayment options. Since its inception in 2011, the bank has offered various loans, including migration, rehabilitation, and self-employment. Despite some returning home due to unsuccessful endeavors, the bank also supports repatriated workers. With 122 branches nationwide, the bank has issued loans totaling Tk 3,311.86 crore to 170,194 migrants by FY 2023-24. Loan eligibility requires a valid visa, employment letter, and other documents. The bank has also introduced deposit schemes and loan risk coverage to protect borrowers. Special provisions are available for female workers, offering lower interest rates. The non-performing loan rate has significantly dropped due to proactive measures, highlighting the bank’s commitment to aiding overseas employment and welfare.
