Barapukuria Coal Mine Company Limited (BCMCL) has halted mining operations as coal reserves for phase 1,103 have been depleted. The Managing Director attributed the suspension to coal scarcity. Despite extracting 0.37 million tonnes surpassing the 0.32 million tonne target, extraction ceased. Equipment is now being readied for the upcoming phase, with coal extraction projected to resume in approximately two months, as reported by local media. Fortunately, the pause’s impact on adjacent coal-fired power generation is mitigated, as the plant maintains ample reserves. This event underscores the importance of efficient coal management and supply chain strategies for stakeholders in the energy sector.
