Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury from North South University has been appointed as the chairman of Grameen Bank, according to a notification from the Financial Institutions Division (FID) on Tuesday. This appointment follows the cancellation of the previous chairman’s contract on August 20, 2024. The former chairman, who had served since March 16, 2020, was reappointed three times, with the last extension in April 2024. Additionally, Farhana Ferdowsi from Southeast University has been appointed as a director on Grameen Bank’s board, while Mohammad Salah Uddin’s directorship was canceled. Grameen Bank, founded in 1983 by Muhammad Yunus, is a prominent microfinance institution in Bangladesh.
