Railway Launches Intercity Covered Wagon Service

Industry: Logistics, Logistics & Shipping

Bangladesh Railway has launched its first intercity covered wagon service for goods, known as the Jayantika Express. The train carried 4,600 kilograms of goods from Dhaka to Sylhet. This initiative aims to transport goods and produce from marginal farmers at a low cost. The move is expected to benefit both farmers and traders by providing easier access to markets and fair prices. The service will increase revenue for the railway and contribute to the country’s overall economy. A total of 16 luggage vans have been added to 15 intercity trains, and additional vans will be stationed at regional stations. Plans are also underway to introduce more goods-carrying carriages to the railway.
