The Petrol Pump Owners Association has issued a warning to halt fuel extraction and transportation in the Rajshahi division from 1 August 2023 if their demands are not met. Their demands include a 7.5% increase in commission, an extension of the fuel oil tanker’s economic life to 50 years, and the issuance of a gazette confirming the commission increment. Despite investing three times more capital than LPG stations, petrol-octane traders receive only Tk4 or 3% commission, whereas LPG stations receive Tk8 (17%) commission per liter sold.
Additionally, the sudden discontinuation of document renewals for tankers older than 25 years by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has sparked criticism. The association argues that tankers, which operate within a limited range for 2 to 3 days a week, should be eligible for an economic life of up to 75 years, considering their usage patterns and investments.
