Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (BIFPCL), constructing the Rampal Power Station in Bagerhat, has requested an extension of the commercial production deadline to secure tax benefits for up to 15 years. BIFPCL has sought permission from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to allow full-fledged commercial production from June 30, 2024, to receive tax holidays and other benefits.
The company cites delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and grid constraints in completing commissioning work. The Rampal Power Station is a joint venture between India’s NTPC and Bangladesh’s BPDB, with a capacity of 1,320 MW. The Ministry of Power has also requested an extension for coal-based power generation companies to go into production until June 30, 2027, due to implementation delays caused by the pandemic and forex difficulties.
